Obituary:
WASHINGTON – John Robert “Bob” Eppelheimer, 88, of Washington, IL, died at 3:08 am Saturday, February 27, 2010 at his home. Born on December 22, 1921 in Thawville, IL to George P. and Ruby McNaught Eppelheimer, he married Bernadine “Bea” Zumwalt on February 26, 1949 in Watseka, IL. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Bea, 2 daughters, Connie Symmonds of Oklahoma City, OK, and Colleen (Barry) Hockensmith of Bloomington, IL, 1 brother, Leland (Elvera) Eppelheimer of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Eppelheimer of Paxton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, and 1 sister. Bob was a Machine Operator at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1986. He also drove a school bus for District #50 for 17 years. He was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. Bob also enjoyed playing cards with friends, gardening, and attending Wednesday morning coffee with his friends from Sunnyland Christian Church. A memorial service for Bob will be held at 11 am Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Crossroads United Methodist Church. Pastor Tom Goddell will officiate. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Tuesday at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be in the church columbarium at a later date.
