WASHINGTON – Lester Junior Cook, 84, of Washington, IL, died at 3:52 am Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL. Born on November 13, 1925 in Pekin, IL to William Lester and Ada Gertrude Brownlee Cook, he married Helen L. Gaumer on October 23, 1964 in Peoria, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 8 children: Jerry (Linda) Bailey of Pekin, IL, Shirley Liberante of Northbend, OR, Wayne Bailey of Pekin, IL, Gwynne (Lee) Pirtle of Benson, IL, Teresa (John) Lock of Washington, IL, Debra (Tom) Halpin of Pekin, IL, Rickey (Deb) Gaumer of Somis, CA, and Gary (Luann) Cook of East Peoria, IL, 28 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Leslie Lee Cook and James Michael Gaumer, 3 grandchildren, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. A US Army Veteran serving during World War II, Lester earned a Bronze Star. He was a member of the VFW Post #2078 in East Peoria. Lester worked at Terminex in Peoria, and later worked in Fabrication at Fruehauf Trailer in East Peoria, retiring in 1987. After retirement, he did custodial work at Versa Press, also in East Peoria. A graveside services will be at 10:30 am Friday, February 12, 2010 at the War Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Pekin, IL. Pastor Steve Hardin will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the US Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no visitation.
