Ernest, 89, of Washington died at Washington Christian Village at 5:10 AM on Thursday, November 12, 2009. She was born on May 25, 1920 in Farmington, IL to Arthur A. and Mabel Holmes Dalton. She married Robert N. Ernest on February 27, 1960. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1997. She is survived by 3 sons Dennis (Cyndi) Quin, Roger (Linda) Quin, both of Washington and Robert (Donna) Ernest of Verbena AL; 2 daughters Bea (Steve) Roosevelt of Deer Creek, IL and Mary Ernest McAtee of Overland Park, KS; 13 grandchildren Shari (Dennis) Owens, Michelle (Blake) Stamm, Keri Reilly, Robert (Missy) Quin, Toby Quin, Spence (Stacy) Roosevelt, John (Dawn) Roosevelt, Gary (Cheryl) Ernest, Cindy (Tony) Harriman, Becky (Doug) Reising, Debbie Johnston, Gayla Baker and Joe Baker; and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister Thelma (Howard) Fahnestock and her parents. Iona graduated from Farmington High School and later attended Brown Business School in Peoria. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol and worked as a bookkeeper at Bartonville Bank and Farmington Bank for 10 years. She had been involved with the Mary & Martha Circle and was a member at Washington Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, woodworking and painting. A service to celebrate Iona’s life will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, November 14 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Linda Baldwin will officiate. Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. A visitation will be held from 9-11 AM prior to the services on Saturday also at the funeral home. Iona’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers with granddaughters serving as honorary pallbearers.
