WASHINGTON—Donald E. “Gus” Gustaveson, 76, of Washington died at 2:37 AM on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at his residence.
Born on July 11, 1933 to Mervin E. and Jessie B. Carmichael Gustaveson in Springfield, IL, he married Veda Grace Kidd on June 12, 1954 in Springfield, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 daughters, Janet Kay (William) Wylie of Washington, IL and Sonja Lynn (Mark) Pederson of Apple Valley, MN; 4 grandchildren, Audrey Wylie of Washington, IL, Jennifer (Jason) Frame of Washington, IL, Nicolas (Lisa) Wiegand of Granite City, IL, and David Wiegand of Apple Valley, MN; 7 great grandchildren, Jordan Wylie, Madelyn Frame, Jacob Frame, Austin Art, and Hannah Howard, all of Washington, and Grace and Faith Wiegand, both of Granite City, IL; and 1 sister, Janet Smith of Jacksonville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald was a US Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, College of Agriculture, and retired in 1993.
Donald enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid Cardinals fan and lifelong Packers fan.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday, October 22 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded.
