She was born on March 10, 1931 in Michoacan, Mexico to Praxedes and Maria De Jesus Arrequin. She married Ramon Mendez in December of 1952 in Mexico. He survives. Also surviving are 5 sons Jose Trinidad (Marina) Mendez of Chicago, Roberto (Maria) Mendez, Rodrigo (Cecilia) Mendez, Enrique (Sara) Mendez, and Javier Mendez, all of Peoria; one daughter Griselda (Misael) Mendez Ruiz of Peoria; 4 sisters and 2 brothers; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Maria was a dedicated mother and wife. Maria was a member at The Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria where a funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, September 24, 2009. Father Attilio Morelli will officiate. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. A visitation will also be held from 5-6:45 PM on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington with a Recitation of the Rosary at 6:45 PM.
