Hopkins Date: May 28th, 1942 - August 22nd, 2009 Obituary: EAST PEORIA--Richard A. “Rik” Hopkins, 67, of East Peoria died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL. He was born May 28, 1942 in Hibbing, MN to John and Dorothy (Hjort) Hopkins. He married Susan Jenkins on April 3, 1993 in East Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are his children Chris (John Forst) Hopkins of Ft. Wayne, IN, Patti (Don) Thorne of Naperville, IL, Bill (Jennifer) Hopkins of Aurora, IL, Jeremy (Terri) Jenkins of Syracuse, NY and Julie (Aaron) Tokh of Aurora, IL; 5 beautiful grandchildren Jack and Parker Thorne and Will, Drew and Madeline Hopkins; sister Judy Rotfield of McHenry, IL; and brother Jim (Janet) Hopkins of Villa Park, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. Rik spent his childhood and high school years in Lansing, Illinois. He graduated from Bradley University in 1967 with a mechanical engineering degree. He worked for Caterpillar for 36 years, most recently in the Track-type Tractor Division, before retiring in 2002. His passions included his family and grandchildren, golf, and travel. The family will receive friends from 1-4 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Rik Hopkins.
