Born on June 24, 1915 in Muscatine, IA to Nathan and Ellen Thomas Thompson, she married Lyle C. Hammond on January 19, 1936 in Palmyra, MO. He died on September 27, 1987 in Peoria, IL. Surviving are 2 daughters, Jean V. Hammond of Las Vegas, NV, and Mary Herren of Peoria, IL, 2 daughter-in-laws, Shirley Hammond of Palm Desert, CA and Ann Hammond of Bloomington, IL, 7 Grandchildren, Eric (Bing) Parr of Las Vegas, NV, Denise (Mike) Patton of Peoria, IL, Marc (Debra) Chapman of Deltona, FL, Angie (Tim) Schurter of Winston-Salem, NC, Dale (Catherine) Richter of San Diego, CA, Chris (Josie) Hammond of Madison, WI, and Cara (Rodney) Boester of Bloomington, IL, 15 Great-Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by 3 sons, Paul Hammond, Lee Hammond, and David Hammond, 1 brother, and 1 sister. She was a motel owner and operator in East Peoria for many years. She was a member of the Association of Women Business Owner in Peoria, and of several bowling leagues in the area. She was of the Methodist faith and was a loving mother and grandma. Services for Lucille will be at 7 pm Monday, August 17, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria, where Pastor Kurt Mews will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-7 pm Monday at the funeral home. Private entombment will be at American Mausoleum in Peoria.
