EAST PEORIA - Roger K. Bomer, 76, of East Peoria died at 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2009, at his home. He was born on July 1, 1933, in Robinson, Ill., to Jess and Georgia Blanche (McGovern) Bomer. He married Donna Cravens on July 27, 1957, in Oblong, Ill. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Glenda (Rick) Grashoff, Cheryl Linton and Legacy and Debbie (John) Parlier, all of East Peoria; 11 grandchildren, Shelly, Jeremy, Alisha, Jessie, Curtis, Keith, Robin, Casey, Damon, Ryan and Terry; and 10 great-grandchildren, Autumn, Miah, Luke, Kent, Auna, Tristan, Seandon, Nathan, Delaney and Grant. He was preceded in death by a brother, sister and his parents. Roger joined the U.S. Navy in 1953, serving his country for eight years. He was stationed on the USS Salem CA-139 for over three years, serving as a gunnery instructor. He then went to Caterpillar, where he worked as a welder for over 30 years. After retiring, Roger started his own businesses, Bomer Welding and R.K. Bomer Water Hauling. He had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Police since 1994. He loved woodworking, making furniture, cabinets and anything else. Roger also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
A service to celebrate Roger's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009, at Twin Oaks Missionary Baptist Church in East Peoria. Pastor Tom Myers will officiate. Burial will follow in Groveland Mennonite Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria.
