Obituary:
Morton- Alberta Mae Gamble, 84, died at 1:38 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. She was born May 22, 1925, in St. David, IL, to Albert and Violet (Windsor) Zaborac. She married Gary Statler Gamble on Oct. 20, 1951, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2001. Surviving are five daughters, Patricia (James) Clabaugh II of Byron, IL, Julie (Gerald) Schmitt of St. Joseph, MO, Peggy (Mike) Bankester of Summerland Key, FL, Vicki Gamble of Bloomington, and Rebecca (Martin) Liescheidt of Washington; one brother Elden Zaborac of Canton; two sisters Neva Moore of Havana and Ila Zaborac of St. David; seven grandchildren Steven Cassady, Shannon Fonner, Sara King, Doug Schmitt, Emily Schmitt, Randi Mae Liescheidt, and Lucas Liescheidt; and three great-grandchildren Alaina and Braden Fonner, and Shannon King. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Alberta graduated from Lewistown High School in 1943. Following graduation she worked at Camp Ellis and then joined the Cadet Nurse Corp in 1944. She then graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing, Peoria, in 1947 where she specialized in premature care. At times, she traveled with portable incubators to transport premature babies to St. Francis. After she married, she left her position at the hospital to raise a family. Graveside services will be held at 10 AM, Friday June 26, 2009 at Hirstein Cemetery on Hirstein Road in Morton, IL. There will be no visitation. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family in arrangements.
