Hayes, 80, of East Peoria died at 2:22 PM on Sunday June 21, 2009 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born January 10, 1929 in Huntington, WV to Augustus and Martha (Durham) Hayes. Survivors include her lifelong friend, Jane Hartter of East Peoria; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hayes of Denver, CO; and 2 nieces, Rosemary (Stan) Jones of Falls Church, VA and Deborah (Jim Martin) Hayes of Centennial, CO; and her beloved cat, Lord Buffingham. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother John Hayes. Sadie received her Bachelor’s Degree from Marshall College in Huntington, WV and her Master’s Degree from Bradley University. She was an elementary school teacher in Peoria Public Schools for 40 years, and belonged to the Peoria Educational Teacher’s Association. While at Marshall College, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta and loved to follow Marshall College football team. She enjoyed bowling, was an avid gardener, and loved her pet birds and cats. A service to celebrate the life of Sadie will be held at 1 PM on Friday, June 26, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. The Rev. Larry Kirk will officiate. Burial will follow at Olio Cemetery in Eureka. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, June 25 also at the funeral home.
