WASHINGTON – James F. “Jim” Brooks, 86, of Washington, died at 12:16 am Monday, June 1, 2009 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born on November 4, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Fredrick H. and Catherine L. Keane Brooks, he married Etta Mae Staples on September 29, 1945 in New Lenox, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, James Fredrick “Ric” (Charlene) Brooks, of Pensacola, FL and Brian Lee (Sue) Brooks of Washington, IL, 6 Grandchildren, Rebecca (Joe) Fabish of Washington, IL, Brian L. (Tara) Brooks, II of Bethalto, IL, James Robert “J.R.” (Heather) Brooks of Vancouver, Canada, Daniel Christopher Brooks, of Chillicothe, IL, Michael Allen Brooks of Peoria, IL, and Bryan Lee Thomas of Chicago, IL, 7 great-grandchildren, Tyler Fabish, Quinn Fabish, Alexandria Brooks, Trey Fabish, Braxton Fabish, Camilla Brooks, and Taylor Mae Brooks. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Joliet, and then transferred to the General Offices in Peoria in 1966 as an accountant. He retired as a Supervisor of Medical Benefits after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Washington. Jim also served as a board member at Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox, and was a member of the Systems and Procedures Association. Jim and Etta Mae also graduated from the first class of the Citizens Police Academy, sponsored by the Washington Police Department. Services will be at 1 pm Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Deacon Paul Neakrase will officiate. Visitation will be from 12-1 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
