Name: William Larry Hengstberger Date: January 28th, 1940 - May 9th, 2009 Obituary: MARQUETTE HEIGHTS—William Larry Hengstberger, 69, of Marquette Heights passed away at 6:45 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at his residence. Born on January 28, 1940 in Peoria, IL to Charles and Willard Thomas Hengstberger, he married Jeni Prater in May 1963 in Peoria. He later married Camiella A. Ice. She survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Vincent Hengstberger of Decatur, IL and Michael (Kirsten) Hengstberger of Marquette Heights; 1 sister, Lucretia (James) Sturges of Washington, IL; 1 brother, Charles Hengstberger of Savanna, IL; 3 granddaughters, Leslie and Heather Hengstberger of Peoria, and Dusti Hengstberger of Pekin; 1 grandson, Jayson Hengstberger of Marquette Heights, and 1 great granddaughter, Audrey Massey of Pekin. He was preceded in death by his parents. Larry proudly served in the US Navy from 1958-1962 as a catapult operator aboard the USS Bennington. He worked as a crane operator in the foundry for Caterpillar Tractor Company, where he retired in 1992 after 30 years of dedicated service. Larry was an accomplished artist and woodworker. He derived great satisfaction from presenting his artwork to friends and family. He was the consummate tinkerer, always repairing and restoring items that people had discarded. He was proud of his restoration of a vintage Toyota Supra. He will be remembered as a kind and hard working man who loved being outdoors. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 6 PM on Friday, May 15, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial of cremated remains will be held at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials: Memorial contributions may be made to the Save the Children Foundation.
