Obituary:
WASHINGTON – Roland F. Bill, 83, of Washington, IL, passed away at 9:00 Am Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL. Born on June 9, 1925 in Roanoke Township to Adolph and Matilda Heedt Bill, he married Helen Elaine Wyckoff on February 12, 1949, in Chicago, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Richard B. (Brigitte) Bill of Morton, IL and 1 daughter, Sharon Taylor, of Benton, KY, 1 grandson, 2 step-grandsons, 1 great-grandson, and 1 sister, Loretta Rushing, of Sandwich, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 1 brother, and 1 grandson. During World War II, Roland served in the Naval Air Corps from 11/1943 to 10-1945, receiving officer’s training at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and the University of Notre Dame. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1949, with a degree in General Engineering. He worked 7 years as a Civil Engineer for Youngstown Sheet and Tube, at Indiana Harbor, and worked 28 years as a Research Engineer for Caterpillar Tractor Co. at the East Peoria and Mossville Plants. He was a 52 year member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington and a 52 year member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. An avid bowler, he bowled in the morning Senior League, and the evening Church League, both at Plaza Lanes in Washington. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded by Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Memorial contributions in Roland’s names may be made to the St. Mark’s Parish Nurse Program, 200 S. Main St. Washington, IL 61571.
