WASHINGTON – Betty B. Fuller, 69, of Washington, IL, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, April 26, 2009.
Born on January 19, 1940 in Nashville, TN to Louis and Gertrude Brown Buckley, she moved to Guthrie, KY at age 2 where she lived on the Buckley farm. She married Charles Calvin Fuller on December 1, 1963 at the First Baptist Church in Clarksville, TN. Charles died on November 16, 2007 in Washington.
Surviving are 3 sons, Calvin Fuller of Edwardsville, IL, Brad (Cathy) Fuller of Washington, IL, and Clay Fuller of Royal Oak, MI, 4 grandchildren, Lauren, Zach, and Chloe of Edwardsville, and Layla of Washington, and 1 brother, Louis Buckley Jr. of Trenton, KY.
Betty attended Gulf Park College for Women in Gulf Park, MS, and completed her teaching degree at the University of Mississippi. She started teaching in Owensboro, KY, where she met Charles . After being married, they moved to Louisville, KY where she taught for 2 years before starting a family. In 1972, they moved to Washington, IL. After many years as a full time mother, Betty returned to work at East Peoria Community High School. She then returned to her teaching career in 1979. Teaching 3rd grade at Creve Coeur District #76 for 26 years, she retired in May of 2005.
Each day Betty sought to enrich the lives of her family and friends. She loved and adored her grandchildren more than life and spent as much time with them as she could. Betty was known in many capacities; devoted wife of 44 years, loving mother and grandmother, loyal friend, and dedicated teacher. She gave all of her heart, soul, and mind to those she touched.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be at 10 am Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Rev. Thomas Heren will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, May 1, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
