Childers, 77, of Washington, died at 9:21 pm Monday, March 23, 2009 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born on June 20, 1931 in Selmer, TN, to Ervin and Exie Burkeens Plunk, she married Robert H. Childers on June 5, 1948 in Corinth, MS. He died on July 5, 2001. Surviving are 3 daughters, Lucy Roese of East Peoria, Nellie (James) Cagle and Jo (Steve) Peterson, both of Washington, 2 sons, Pete (Diane) Childers and Kenneth (Barb) Childers, both of Washington, 2 brothers, Jerry (Vergie) Plunk of Springfield, TN and Marvin (Mary) Plunk of Adamsville, TN, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter, Carol Childers, 1 infant son, Lonnie Childers, 2 sisters, and 5 brothers. Johnnie worked at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria for 15 years. She was a talented quilter, and touched many by giving her quilts away. She loved her family greatly. Services will be at 10 am Friday, March 27, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Mary Arnold will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
