WASHINGTON – Phyllis Kay Schierer Hastings, 69, of Washington, IL, died at 6:34 am Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Eureka Apostolic Christian Home due to complications of pancreatic cancer.
Born on February 21, 1940 in Bricktown, IL to Robert and Lillian Hofstatter Schierer, she married Ronald l. Hastings on June 6, 1959 at St. Patrick Church in Washington. He survives.
Also surviving are her parents of Eureka, 1 daughter Judith Ann (Chuck) Majerus of Eureka, 1 son, Kevin Joseph (Robin) Hastings of Washington, IL, 4 sisters, Marilyn Kern of Eureka, Barbara Jean (Chuck) Riker of Herscher, IL, Gerrie (Steve) Schrock of Congerville, and Bonnie (David) Owens of Bloomington, 3 grandchildren, Kaycee Majerus, Ashley Hastings, and Andy Majerus and 1 great-grandson, Austin Michael Hastings.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Partnered with her husband and son, Phyllis was active in the family farming business. She also was a caregiver to her father at the Eureka Apostolic Christian Home.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, where a funeral mass will be at 10 am Saturday, March 14, 2009. Father Joseph P. Donton will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, March 13, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, where a Scripture Service will be at 7pm. Additional visitation will be one half hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave. Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA, 90245.
