WASHINGTON—Landis A. “Lanny” Hirstein, 69, of Washington, died at 2:15 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at his residence. Born on July 14, 1938 in Pontiac, IL to Eldon and Eileen Fritch Hirstein, he married Paige “Penny” Vohland on December 24, 1958 in Washington, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Tracy (Rodney) Joos of Peoria Heights and Tammy (Tony) Forbes of Wildwood, FL; 1 granddaughter, Mandel (Tony) Mowder of Peoria Heights; 1 brother, Roger (Dana) Hirstein of East Peoria; and his sister-in-law, JoAnne (Howard) Zachman of Clermont, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents. Lanny owned Studio Royal Photography Studio in the 1960’s, and was the publisher for the Tazewell Reporter in Washington in 1968. He was a Professional Dog Handler from the 1960’s until 2000 and was a judge for the American Kennel Club Dog Show from 2000 to the present. He started his own dog shampoo company in 1976, Pro-Line Winning Ways Inc. Lanny was a member of the Cornbelt Kennel Club in Bloomington, and the Montgomery County Kennel Club. He was also a Past President of the American Miniature Schnauzer Club. A memorial service will be held at 5 PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor John Hauck will officiate. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to services from 3-5 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded.
