Nelson, 73, of East Peoria died at 12:05 AM Saturday June 30, 2012 at Washington Christian Village in Washington. He was born December 2, 1938 in Pelican Rapids, MN to Vernon and Eleanor Wenholm Nelson. He married Ardis Sanden on September 23, 1960 in Pelican Rapids. She survives. Also surviving are two sons; John (Murren) Nelson of Orange Park, FL and Mark Nelson of Lilburn, GA, one daughter; Kirsten Nelson of Roselle, IL and two grandchildren; Katherine and Luke Nelson. One sister Janice (Duane) Erickson of Canoga Park, CA also survives. David graduated from the University of Minnesota. Following graduation he moved to Central Illinois where he worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for more than forty years. He was an engineer. He retired after many years in management in 2001. After his retirement he enjoyed creating Folk Art by wood carving. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially at his cabin on Lake Lida in Minnesota. There will be a celebration of David’s life at a later date in Pelican Rapids. Cremation rites have been accorded.
