Roger Smick, 88, of Metamora, formerly of Washington, passed away at 10:40am Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Snyder Village in Metamora.
He was born December 20, 1929 in Bardolph, IL to Arliegh and Lena (Foresman) Smick. He married Juanita Thomas on April 17, 1949 in Quincy, IL; she preceded him in death on August 13, 2012.
Surviving are five children, Eugene L. (Cindy) Smick of East Peoria, Arleen K. (Lenard) Smith of Washington, Jacqueline V. (Richard) Whitby of Washington, Rory J. (Kimberly) Smick of Washington, and Calvin L. Smick of Sunnyland; 24 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; and a brother, Kenneth Smick.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Smick; two daughters, Pamela Kay and Bonnie Jean Smick; and 1 great-granddaughter, Adilynn Jo Nelson.
Roger retired from Caterpillar after many years of service and served in the Navy Reserves. He attended Cat's apprentice training school for tool design and went on to work there as a foreman. He enjoyed playing pool and bowling, as well as stock car racing. He was an avid motorcyclist, continuing to ride well into his 80s. Above all else, he was a family man and loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Private inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is serving the family.
