Patricia Marie Menz, 86, of Washington. Our mother died this morning, Friday, April 6, 2018 in Peoria after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Pat wrote her own obituary. She was born June 21, 1931, in Pekin, to Dallas and Margaret (Goodwin) Lohnes. On June 10, 1951, she married Gene Alan Menz and lived in Washington, IL for the rest of her life. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and sister, H. Ruth Johnson.
She is survived by her brothers, Harold D. (Dorothy) Lohnes and Peter L. (Marilyn) Lohnes; sister-in-laws, Audrey (James) Dancer and Linda Menz.
Also surviving are her children, Leslie E. Menz, of Bellingham, WA, Michele S. (Larry) Astle, of Washington, Jolene M. Schuk of Peoria; 2 granddaughters whom they raised, Amanda Schuk of Encinitas, CA, Allisen (Eric) DuBois of Lake Camelot; 2 grandsons, Matthew T. Astle of Madrid, Spain, John A. Astle of Peoria; 2 great-grandsons, Oliver DuBois and Rowan DuBois both of Lake Camelot; and several nieces and nephews.
Patricia graduated Pekin Community High School in 1949 and graduated Methodist School of Nursing in 1952 as an RN.
She worked as a School Nurse for District 51 and 52 in Washington for 13 years. She then worked at Methodist Hospital, retiring in 1993.
She was an award-winning seamstress and volunteered at Wildlife Prairie State Park with her husband, Gene.
In lieu of flowers, Pat requests donations to Wildlife Prairie State Park.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Grand View Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Peoria for all of their loving care.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
